
Louis(Yifan) Shen is a film, game, and concert composer, orchestrator, and arranger based in Maryland, USA. Renowned for his versatility, Louis blendsnarrative-driven writing with a wide range of styles, including film scoring, classical, avant-garde, pop, jazz, and traditional Chinese music. In 2025, he was named among the Top 5 composers in Asia in the European Recording Orchestra’s Call for Scores competition.
Most recently, Louis orchestrated the score and composed additional music for the
animated feature The Summer of Mermaids, showcasing his strength incrafting lyrical themes and cinematic textures for narrative animation. His credits also include music for the 3D VR game The Ghost Story and the short film Parallel Shadow.
Louis is a third-year undergraduate student in the Music for New Media program at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, where he studies with Thomas Dolby(Awarded Roland Lifetime Achievement, the Producer of "She Blinded Mewith Science" , "Hyperactive!" and many others, ). He also completed the Online Graduate Degree in Film & Game Scoring at the Film Scoring Academy of Europe, studying with Andy Hill(Score supervisor of "Beauty and the Beast", "The Lion King", and many others) and Dr. Norman Ludwin(Orchestrator of "Jurassic World", "Inside Out" and many others). In 2023 he was selected for the Fusion Film Scoring Workshop, working with Emmy-winning composer Dr. Mihali Paleologou and recording his score at Cue Production Studio in Thessaloniki, Greece.
An adaptable collaborator, Louis combines orchestration and arranging skills with a pianist’s sensitivity to timbre and phrasing, producing scores that are both musically rigorous and responsive to directors’ and developers’ creative needs. He is actively seeking new collaborations in film, animation, and interactive
